3.18.2022 news

Hi All. Book 22 is in the rear-view, and working on a very fun compilation, as well as super short stories (<1000 word stories) I call 'coffee stories' until I can find a new place and settle back down. (Replacing the content from the bunker tier on Patreon, with a lot higher, more consistent content. Posted here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/chancepaladin Patreon was taking way too much $, so I started a new site on 'coffee' link below. Putting the 'coffee' stories on there, which are typically under 1000 words and will be exclusive for the year I wrote them in. Then the next year they'll be exclusive to print. They're way less stress for me to write these tiny stories, as they take only about 45 min a piece, instead of days a piece in the case of a short story, or months in the case of a novel. On a personal note, the prospects of getting a new place (Again) are very grim. Not only are houses triple what they were the last time we bought a house, b...

11.27.2021 news. status of book #22, woohoo!

Wow it's been a long time since I updated this blog, sorry. Most of my news is posted on the patreon now. www.patreon.com/chancepaladin Long story short, is book #22 is in the works (28k words in!!), and it'll be the wrapup of the "PNW" portion of the series. There'll be more books post #22, but it'll be a long time before anymore of the big arc gets more than hinted at. More on that on the patreon site. Also if you can't afford any of the books and still want to get started, you can still check out the free first story right here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zxo6yn1xi0qewqo/PNW_Affliction_1_Recycled_PDF.pdf?dl=0 thanks and stay tuned. lots more planned after book #22. appreciate yall. -cp

Here's my author page again if anyone needs it. http://www.amazon.com/author/chancepaladin Thanks!!

Book 18 done, 100k words

Book 18 done, 100k words It's going through the Amazon review process now, should be up within a few days. My 3rd 18+ book in the series, this book hopefully ties up all the loose burning questions everyone had, while continuing some existing characters and answering a ton of questions. Don't worry there will be lots of new questions too! I took in all your feedback, hopefully got everything in there. I had originally wanted roughly 20 stories but I didn't have time to squeeze in the last two. My deadline was today 9/15 set about two months ago when I realized how bad it was getting. Book 18 so 18 stories seemed legit plus they are really tight stories and I didn't come up with any more that fit my 3-point criteria in time.  This book was literally up to the last second deadline-wise. I'll write more about it later if people want. Super busy! Thanks! Horray! -CP

book 18 first draft done, 84k words

book 18 first draft done, 84k words. on solid writing days I was writing round 10-12k words per day which is insanely ambitious. Tons of positive energy in chat is what kept that going. Thanks everyone for the awesome outpouring. this book isn't too big or too small, it's just right! It might get a tiny bit bigger as I do a second draft, but I'm very happy with it. Tells 18 great stories.  I wish i could have done more, but this timing is perfect. I got 16 stories done a bit ahead of time, and had time to squeeze in two more. It'll take about two weeks'ish to do a second draft and if there isnt anything i glaringly missed and no compelling reasons to squeeze in more stories, I'm very happy with 18 stories for book #18.  I initially wanted it to be huge, but then upon reviewing the timeline and the enormous amount of physical and mental effort it takes to write stories, I realized it would have taken probably a year or so. Ironically I had initially given myself...

Blog 8-21-2020

Book 18 and of PNW Affliction wrapup thoughts. Fall of 2016 was very bad. That’s when the dreams started, and I couldn’t get them out of my head and had to start writing. I knew though, if enough people stood up, we could buy ourselves some time. As I had predicted, enough people had the same idea, but the other side exponentially increased as predicted and soon managed to out train and out fundraise through crowdsourcing and pooling unemployment. At that point I’d calculated Fall of 2018 to be the clear point of collapse, then it seemed more like Fall of 2019. It seemed like each time we were able to find ways to postpone the apocalypse by tiny amounts. Then 2020 hit and it was officially declared “The new normal” once mainstream media couldn’t cover it up anymore. If election 2020 was as bad as 2016’s was, or probably likely worse, it will be a challenge to rebound from. I don’t think T-Man can buy us anymore time. The politicians have it rigged to where they refuse to he...

BOOK 18 status

Book 18 first draft is done. Over 72k words. I wanted it to be bigger but I'm flat out out of time.  I'm putting a little blog at the end of it since its going to be my last traditional book. It's getting harder to write. I notice the last 30% of each book gets very hard to write. Like stuffing water in a water bottle that's already full, but trying to get the last airbubbles out.  My heads getting fuzzier again and I notice I'm making a lot more typos. I probably have another of bad migraine episodes coming.  Plus the news is getting worse. So hopefully putting the blog at the end of my book is a nice book-end to the whole thing. Sort of explained how I came up with the timeline and my predictions for the near future. Going to try to squeeze in a few more stories into book 18 and plan on publishing it Sept 15th. Hopefully a few more lighthearted stories instead of all the doom and gloom, it's hard to find escapism right now, so we'll see. I know i could ha...

Books renumbered on Amazon

Due to overwhelming feedback, the naming convention on Amazon for my books has been updated. No more roman numerals, except on the book covers. This would take forever to fix because Amazon doesn't have a super simple way of changing a single character on a book title that I can find, even though I made those in their system. It looks like they don't save it anywhere that I can tell. Suffice it to say everywhere else, the book numbers should be updated. I overestimated people's familiarity with roman numerals. Is what it is. Switching everything to numbers. It looks a little more basic, but I guess it sounds like that's what everyone wants. So I'll go with it and see how it does. Please let me know what you think? Amazon should have everything updated by tomorrow, hopefully. Thanks as always. Note 1: Amazon's "series" functionality still doesn't work. I have a note in to them, and I'll see if I can get them to set it up. Note 2: Me upda...

book 18, final book. And how YOU can help!

Hello All. Wanted to let you know book 18 has officially started. Going to be my last book. All short stories. No heavy crossover work like 15, 16, and 17 did. They will have nods and references to each other, but that's it. Going to be ordered chronologically to hopefully at least help continuity a little bit. Book 18 is going to take a long time to write. I'm trying to wrap up every loose end from the prior 17 books that anyone could possibly be interested in. Which is why I wanted to let everyone know, if you've read any of my prior books, I'm taking ideas for stories to either expand on or finish up in this book. Just let me know. Back to writing, cya'll later! cp

Book 17 golive imminent!1111one

What a wild ride. Book 17 was the most challenging book mentally I've written to date. almost exactly 6 months. Two of those months were proof reading the darn thing. I'm mentally completely wiped, which is sad because I still have 3-4 more topics I want to write about. Next book is going to be short stories though that aren't connected, but in the same book. I can't do another 90,000 page epic. For some reason reading this one was super tough. The book isn't dense per se but there was absolutely tons of intertwining that had to be absolutely perfect. You know how I get. Anyway so hope you enjoy. This one was a big push. I don't even know what to say, except I'm relieved. A ton of cool stuff went into this one. Next is going to be updating book 1-8 and fixing all the old print copies, then update I still want to do a podcast some day where I talk about each book with spoilers. This one would be a doosey. More later. Thanks for hanging in there. Thank...

book 17 first draft done and status

book 17 first draft done Good grief. It came together amazing. It was a hard push, I'm going to be honest. But 75k words later, and I have a first draft. There is a few minor updates I need to make, but its like 99% complete. This's going to be my last book for a long time. I set up for a book 18 though if I ever want to make one. but have no arc at this time, and it'd be a long, long time off. For now I'm going to be working on edits for a very very very long time. Nice, peaceful relaxing edits. I've already done some very very therapeutic edits to book 1, so now's the best time ever to go check it out. But I'll be starting with book 1 and working my way through. Then when I'm all done with edits. I'm going to make an anthology pt1 and an anthology pt2. although they won't be nearly as fancy as the first edition anthology 1 was. I flat out forgot how I did a lot of that formatting and can't even come close to replicating it, so i...

book 17!!! great news!

The coastal region of Coastoria! It's going to be a lot of fun. Already about 14,000 words in. I've got solid characters, and things for them to do! It's practically writing itself. Just some world building. So excited!!!!!!!!

book 16 golive imminent!!1

89k words and counting. "Hell Hath No Fury" will be going live within the next week or so. Super excited! Most ambitious book to date, slightly edging out book 15. Laser focused on Portlandia revolving around first 48 hours of the collapse. Hope ya'll will check it out when it comes out. Thanks as always. -c

Book #15 go live imminent!

84,000 words, easily most ambitious book to date by a huge margin. I have a 16th book well in the works with a 17th in the far off future. Every time I say "its my last one" two more ideas pop into my mind. I think I might even have an 18th, but I'm not 100% sure about that one. Basically #15 is Sealth (aka Seattle) 16 will be Portlandia (aka portland. earthquakes, floods, explosions, and more!) 17th Astoria (its going to tidal wave + flood, spoilers!) 18th Olympia??? (dont have a premise for this one yet) Maybe the homeless will take it over and make it into a fking kickass sprawling homeless metropolis. :O Already have several stories covering Puyallup and the garbage dump known as Everett. Several stories covering Olympic peninsula. Debating one about Bremerton, still not sure yet. We'll see how well #15, 16, 17 is received. Thanks as always! Tell you friends and take care. Tons more to come. Chance

Book 14 followup and 15 update

Hello All, Slight oopsy and book #14 wasn't in KDP Select aka Kindle Unlimited for some reason. It's a checkbox that I know I hit but ya know, oh well. It's fixed now. Sorry whoever out there was mashing their head against the keyboard wondering why book book 1-13 was on KU and 14 wasn't. I don't know your name, but hats off to you for mashing through book #13 like a champ! I wish I could see what you liked about it but you read it through solid apparently, so must have been decent ;) Book 15 still in the works. It's going to be massive. By far the most characters introduced. Basically cramming in every single type of character I hadn't made yet that I find interesting in the most asked for setting. It'd better be massive also! I want my second "season" of books to be of comperable size which means this book has to be like two pretty beefy books in one. And you're in luck because it's going to have like 8 arcs, har har! "Wh...

Thanksgiving Weekend Sunday Status

Hey buddies! Looks like we've given away around 30+ books so far, which isn't bad by any measure. I also finished writing book #15, which I changed to book #14 so I didn't confuse people. It makes sense anyway after I thought about it more because #14 actually had the bookend to the second big storyarc. 13 and 14 should be publishing within the next few days, and I worked my absolute ass off on both of them trying to cram in as much as I could. So 13 is still 13, 15 is 14, and 14 will be 15. I'm starting writing 15 next, then probably 6 months of re-edits like I did this year. I'm not exactly sure how long 15 will take to write, but I'm actually going to try to get it done by Dec 31st, which I might be able to do because I'll be taking some more time off around Christmas/New Years, and if I'm not completely done with it by then, that's when I will be wrapping it up. I actually have several legitimately good arcs drafted for book 15. It's ...

Free Thanksgiving Weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving! Books #1, 10, and 12 are free this weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving as well as the release of book #13 and #15 by the end of the weekend. Skipping #14 for now because continuity is overrated. :D If the giveaway does well enough, I'll release a few more for free throughout the weekend, so we'll see. Stay tuned all weekend. Tell your friends please, without word-of-mouth nobody will know about the books if you enjoyed them. Thanks as always. Have a good time with family and then read free books! -Chance

9/5/2018 update

Free book weekend went good. Gave away 36 more books between book #1 and book #5. Slowly working on book #14 and 15 at the same time. I hate it when this happens. I still don't have a tablet I can type on to write books when I'm actually inspired so I have two spiral bound notebooks alternating between two stories. I decided to shelve part of 14 and make it into a standalone novel, the other part of 14 will focus on the core of the story I was trying to tell instead of running off with itself. #13 just needs to be edited. I'm 3-4 books behind in my editing and half the people that've read my books only comment is, "I need an editor." If they only knew how much that would cost me. I have reached out to several publishers and the responses range to being ignored to flat out insulted at the sheer thought of it. You're apparently supposed to do the whole thing yourself, then hire someone who pitches your book or some nonsense, whatever. Wtf is the point of...

PNW Affliction 1: Recycled - The Retrospective

PNW Affliction 1: Recycled - The Retrospective Alright. This's been a long time coming, and there's probably no real better place to start than at the beginning. Spoilers abound, although this's mostly "behind the story" type stuff. This book isn't actually the beginning of the story by any means. It's the beginning of the main character though, and it's how this whole "universe" got started. Basically I had a dream one night of walking and it getting progressively darker until there was no light left. Just like nearly every single one of my books, this started out with a basic premise. Really no more than a "first act" if you will. I wrote the first act, peppered in with some things that were real, like me having a cat that played with a plastic bag while I tried to sleep. I can't exactly remembered where the premise came from for act two, except that I've always been fascinated by recycling and the recycling logo. ...

Plans for the blog

There's a few things (besides basic updates and status) I've wanted to do for a long time. I'd been doing some of them on Facebook, but due to the cancerous algorithms, even people who followed my page rarely got to see updates amongst all of the paid advertising spam. So here we go, in no particular order. Retrospectives: Basically go over the design process of each book. Some of them are fairly interesting, and only a handful were straight forward. Word count: Every time there's a new book, or I do edits that change the word count of the books by more than a hundred words or so, I like to keep that updated. It's fun for me. Artwork: I generated quite a bit of artwork for these stories. Not nearly as much as the webcomic project I did before this, but still quite a significant amount. Also to include the back story on each piece. Although I'm a little divided on whether I should do that here or on DeviantArt. We'll see. Maybe if the feedback is positi...
